  1. reflux testing & treatment

So, we go see the new ped today for 14 month appt (we used to just see the nurse pract b/c his bio mom wouldn't let us see the ped...). I was telling him about how the axid doesn't seem to be working, asking for a referral to GI for testing to see if he's aspirating the reflux (he was aspirating liquids which is why we did the g tube). He pretty much blew me off- he was like well, if no fever or coughing, probably not aspirating, don't worry. He switched us from axid to prevacid to try...

  2. No reflux?

We had the pH probe and it came back normal...with minimal reflux. It seems odd...she was having SUCH huge problems with reflux...could it all of a sudden just have gone away? Her doctor wants us to just do nexium every other day now.

  3. Ugh! Coming off meds prior to more testing

Bella is getting ready to have a repeat endoscopy, another bronchoscope, and, for the first time, an impedance probe (had two pH probes previously). The first bronchoscope in January showed significant trachea and lung damage as a result of the aspirations. This time they are going to try to pull the fluid out of her lungs to figure out if it is reflux and/or swallowed liquids (she is choking a LOT now, so I would not be surprised if it was liquids she is drinking). Anyway, we have to take...

  4. Sad Yellow Increasing symptoms

Andrew just turned one last month. We had been seeing progress with his reflux and aside from a nasty virus he's done pretty well. (He's was inpatient with rhinovirus a week and a half ago, came home with double ear infections and is cutting teeth=diarrhea for almost a week) He hasn't gained weight for almost 4 months now, and probably lost some with his recent illness, but everyone just keeps saying not to worry. I've decided to increase his calories some (he's on continuous feeds at...

  5. Question "Normal" reflux? just need a little reassurance

I am pretty sure Erick's "reflux" is within normal limits but I think I just need a little reassurance. Sometimes, (at most a couple of times a day), you can hear him reflux and then he'll cough (wet) and is fine. We are no longer BF. I've noticed his does this more with bottles too. We were barely weaning when I went away for a couple of days and left Erick with my IL's so I let them give him a bottle.:( He has about 3 bags left (playtex) and after that it is over. He drinks fine...

  6. pH probe...help?

Lindsey is having a pH probe done on Feb 26th. We have to stop her reflux meds a week ahead. How do we handle that? It is going to be a HARD week. Any suggestions for relief for her during that time? Also, what will the actual test be like? Do the kids usually tolerate it ok? She had an NG tube, but she is much more aware now, and I don't think she will like the probe at all. :( Also, she is only on continuous night feeds right now and taking tiny amounts of solids during the day. Tiny...
