Yeah, it didn't go well. But, that's OK. We are fine with it really. We just wanted to give it one last try before going long term for about 2 more years without trying again. We have decided not to try again until he goes into Kindergarten. He lasted about 30 or so good days. At that time we started to see mild issues. We made it to about 45 days and we were seeing flat out food refusals, gagging and vomiting. That was it, we gave in.:( For now, I've bumped him UP a titch in dose to...
Kacey has been having asthma issues for awhile now, her asthma specialists now think she may have Vocal Cord Dysfunction and that is what is causing her breathing issues. We know she has reflux and she is on 30mg of Prevacid and 1 tsp of Axid daily. Do we need to go back to the GI and figure out a new plan? Should the fundo be considered? When we thought it was asthma it seemed easier to deal with, VCD seems more complicated and scarier. :helpme:
I am doing everything possible to keep Nicholaus away from everybody that is sick. But it is really hard when his 2 sisters both have stomach viruses. He is all congested sounding but that has been a constant thing since November. Claritan is not working or making any differences. He goes in for surgery on 3/31 just hoping he can stay healthy enough for that.
Well, we are here in Cinci, and so far Carter has had the chest CT and an Upper GI. The great news is that the CT showed no lung damage at all. So, despite the fact that he's been chronically coughing and congested from reflux his entire 3.5 years, he has done no damage to himself. With his weight being good and no lung damage, we can treat the coughing as more of a nuisance, per Dr. B (Pulmonologist at Cinci). They still need to do his double bronch and EGD tomorrow, which hopefully will...
There are so many subtle symptoms of reflux or even illnesses that masks the symptoms of reflux. How did you know when your little on had reflux? After you knew your little one had reflux how long did it take before the physicians were on board with treatments?
Our pharmacy has been trying to order erythromycin all week for Wyatt's script that the GI ordered on Monday. Today we called them once again and they said they can't figure out why it's not coming when they order it each day. They called two other pharmacies for us to locate some and they were both out too. So, they decided to call the wholesaler and found out it's been discontinued. Now what?!?! Baclofen and Reglan was not reccomended for him (GI talked to neuro about it.) Are we stuck with a...
How does your little refluxer sleep at school or daycare? Do you bring in a wedge for naptime or are they fine for the short nap laying flat?
Asa has been treated for reflux for his whole 2 years! First it was Zantac, then Prevacid, the Nexium when we changed ins. and they didn't cover the Prevacid. Now the ins. wants a 2 week trial wean of the Nexium. GI called in Zantac to cover the 2 weeks. Only it isn't cutting it. Several times a day he has terrible reflux episodes, pain and puking. He takes the Zantac 5mls 2x/day. I wonder if I could go to 2 1/2mls before each meal. This just sucks.....we were on a good roll!
Wyatt was in for an impedance probe (while on meds) last week and we talked with the GI nurse practitioner yesterday about the results. I was sure it wouldn't show too much as he was having a seemingly comfortable day, but apparently on his good days he's still refluxing multiple times each hour. 1/2 of which was acidic, the other non-acidic. We are adding a prokinetic (erythramyocin) 4x's a day and we will see the doctor in 2 weeks to follow-up....which is good because I have more questions...
I wrote a little over a week ago about my daughter not being able to keep anything down. Well it turned out it wasn't the stomach flu. The Zantac wasn't working. A few hours after i posted my daughter was admitted to the hospital and stayed there a week (we got out Fri). Well she's back on her prevacid (at least for the time being) and feeling MUCH better! All is right with the world. I really want to thank the ladies for their advice and concern. You ladies are so knowlegeable.
I know I dont report on my kids much, but Margaret is still having trouble. Every night she is in pain and most of the day. We are just running out of drug options. She is going to have an endoscopy and Bravo ph probe either 2/10 or 2/17 to see what is going on and if we have any options. I just wish there was an easy solution to the reflux beast!
Has anyone's child been diagnosed with moderate reflux as a newborn and not grow out of it by 3? It seemed to go away around 9-10 months adjusted age, but came back around 18 months after a virus. He has been back on prilosec for almost 1 year and 1/2 and it seems to be getting worse. He has been real apprehensive about eating dinner the past month or so saying he's sick, or runs to the bathroom saying he's sick, but nothing happens. His appetite has also decreased in the past 2 weeks. His GI...
Based on the messages I am getting from the doctors it is looking less and less like we are going for a 3rd funfo with him but they are all of the feeling that unless something is drastictly differant on his UGI than we will be looking harder into the gastric bypass. On the plus side there are multiple studies done in adults comparing the two surgeries and for reflux symptoms the satisfaction rate with the fundo is about 78% but the GBP is 100% and the complication rate since it will not be...
Have you noticed an increase in your childs reflux when they are admitted vs being at home or a decrease while admitted? Are the nurses at the hospitals willing to allow you as the parent to assist with medications for reflux since some of our refluxers are tricky when it comes to taking the meds?
I need some advice my 3 1/2 year old has been having more frequent refluxing episodes. How long do you wait after they eat to put them down for a nap? My son's GI said to wait 2-3 hours after dinner (which is going to be tough!) Is it the same for naps? He has had problems at night lately because he had croup and had break through reflux so they had to increase his prilosec. Also yesterday she added Mylanta 4 times a day. Should this be before or after meals or does it matter? The bottle...
Wyatt has been struggling more and more with reflux and what I'm assuming is motility related issues. He's on prevacid, morning and evening (highest possible dose). He complains frequently about burning in his throat and needing a drink, things getting "stuck" in his throat when eating, burping, swallowing the "throw up", belly hurting, bloating, etc. I know some of it appears to be motility issues along with reflux. He's also having chronic and reocurring sinus infections which aggrivate his...
Did you do what my title told you to do??? Did ya??? I'm just saying, it's gonna be YOUR fault and I'll blame YOU if something goes wrong!!!!!! :tongue_stickouttong :tongue_stickouttong :tongue_stickouttong . . . . . . . .
Today we went for a second opinon for Brody concerning his refluxing/GI issues from another pedi GI from Boston. (mass general) After reviewing all the files and asking many questions he pretty much said that he would recomend that Brody have a fundo. He did say that he would run an impedence probe first just for back up evidence while ON prevacid - but he was sure it would support doing the fundo. He said that while Brody has mild reflux, he refluxes a LOT and it is clearly affecting his...
We are going to Children's of Cincinnati the first week of March, and one of the procedures they want to do is a high resolution Chest CT. They say it is an "Inspiratory/Expiratory" procedure. He will be knocked out for it, and they say he will be on a ventilator that will hold his breath briefly and then release it. This whole thing scares me to death! What if that machine screws up? Does anyone know anything about this?
