Accidents are the number-one cause of serious injury and death in children. Prevention tips: Safety Tips: Prevent Fires & Burns · Practice your fire escape plan · Check your smoke detectors & replace batteries when necessary · Keep a fire extinguisher in or near the kitchen · Keep matches & lighters out of reach and teach children to never play with them · Teach your children emergency phone numbers and to leave the house if fire breaks out
Each child is unique. It is therefore difficult to describe exactly what should be expected at each stage of a child's development. While certain attitudes, behaviors, and physical milestones tend to occur at certain ages, a wide spectrum of growth and behavior for each age is normal. These guidelines are offered as a way of showing a general progression through the development stages rather than as fixed requirements for normal development at specific ages. It is perfectly natural for a child...
3 Years Old Nutrition: Mealtime should be a pleasant time for the family. If food battles are common, ask your doctor for advice. Your child should be completely feeding himself by now. Avoid junk foods. You are the parent, so you make the rules about healthy foods. See daily needs chart at the bottom of this page. Development & Discipline: Children at this age often want to do things by themselves; this is normal. Patience and encouragement will help 3-year-olds develop new skills...

He can blow his nose! Of course, we have to hold the tissue for him, but he can blow pretty hard if we tell him to and he can move the junk with each blow! I remember being so excited when my other guys were around 3 and learned, but this poor little man seems to always have a runny nose and is so tired of us messing with him. And, when we use the bulb syringe, he struggles so hard, his paper thin nasal membranes end up bleeding more times than not and that makes me HATE to use it on him. ...
I know there is quite a range of ages for this forum, but I am curious about how and when you discipline your little ones. Do you use time out? Do you spank? Do you take things away? Something else? (No judgments, please!) For what type of things will you discipline your kids? Do you give warnings first or just go straight to a punishment? Do you talk it over afterward? What about rewards? Do you reward your child for specific behaviors? If so, do you use some sort of chart or...
Wasn't sure where else to put this. Paxten has tubes in both ears. He got them in May last year. At his check-up with the ENT a couple of weeks ago, he comments that one had moved. Even though it wasn't quite where it should have been they tested it and said it was working. Let him know if he got another ear infection and we'd do something then. Last night was a nightmare. He screamed all night long and we couldn't figure out why. We gave him both Tylenol and Motrin. He had a fever but not...
I am really angry about this and I need some answers if you all can help me. I had a doctors appointment yesterday for my thyroid labs and mentioned to my doctor that my hair was still falling out from having Kallan and how long should I expect it to happen. She said since my thyroid is good it could be 1 of 2 more things causing it. 1 being my iron storage is low(ferritin?) because Kallan is depleting it or 2. stress on my body because she doesn't even remotely sleep threw the night. ...
Miles just turned one and I am ready (he may not be lol) to transition him to his crib but keeping him within arm's reach in our bedroom. He's a REAL mommy's boy and is with me 24/7. For those who have made the move from bed to crib. How hard was it? Please share your stories. TIA
We are no longer BF. Erick will be 2 March 5 :) He still doesn't really drink milk though so I am trying to figure that out. He drinks carnation condensed milk somewhat better. This was the first BM sub he would drink at all. Recently, we tried some infant formula. Parent's Choice Gentle (wal-mart similar to Good Start). I know he is way too old for formula but it was a free sample I was planning to give away and we were completely out of milk when I opened it. He kept asking...
After TWO MONTHS of trying and doing fairly well... our daughter just QUIT. Like she woke up last week and said nope... this was fun, give me the diapers back please. So, we have. What's the point in battling her, we can't win. Please tell me someone else with a otherwise relatively normal kid is still struggling with potty training after three years old (she turned 3 in mid-feb). I feel like I really suck at this aspect of parenting.
Since O-man started on formula and is eating more solids, his BM's have really slowed down--which I completely expected. On breastmilk he was pooping 4-6 times a day. Now, he is going a day or longer between poops. I know that can be normal for some kiddos, but what I hate is that when he goes it is a huge production. He spends a good 10 min. straining, turning red, pushing, putting his head down, and even doing a little body quiver after straining so hard. What can I do to make it easier...
I can't decide between these 2 dresses, I love the little head wrap the first one comes with & the side sash of balloons says Birthday Girl, but I also love the little embroidered cupcakes.. So which dress do you like best? The first one or second one?
Emily has never been a great sleeper. It got worse when she moved to a bed. A typical night is me laying with her to fall asleep, I end up falling asleep too. I leave the room around 9. She comes to our room around 1am and sleep between DH and I the rest of the night. I told her when she turns 4 in May it is all over. Any suggestion on the transition? It is going to be a nightmare but I have to be strong and just do it. She won't even lay in her bed by herself if I say I have to go...
Spring is on the way~got me thinking about strollers and how much Adilyn will use hers (or not!) How many do you have? What's your favorite and why? Do you have one in the car all the time? For those with preschooler/older toddlers, how often do you use it?
Has anyone used this brand... CuteyBaby? http://www.cuteybaby.com/?page_id=7 They had them in Coscto. They were selling the started box of 6 diapers for $75 something. We got a box. My husband actually convince me to go ahead. when i got home, i looked online to see how much they cost and at Amazon, they are $139.99! http://www.amazon.com/CuteyBaby-Modern-Cloth-Diaper-Starter/dp/B00377BZQQ/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&s=baby-products&qid=1267126287&sr=1-13
If you choose not to vaccinate, do you still go to well baby visits?
PLEASE tell me they aren't discontinuing the regular old style silicone nuk binky that Pax knows and loves, and is addicted to like no other!! I see all these "new and improved" Gerber binks in their place, and they still have "old style" ones, but they don't look the same - and Pax is super OCD about his binks. I think I could switch Finn over without much hassle...but Pax?! I feel compelled to buy every 2 pack of size 2 silicone Nuks I can find!
how does a typical preschooler act? i am at my wits end, really. my husband is convinced there is nothing wrong with emily, even to the point of having me cancel the apt. with the developmental pedi i waited THREE months for. but he works all the time so he doesn't see a lot of the way she acts. it is really taxing on me and audrey. I am pretty sure Dh thinks it is me being difficult and not emily. I already told him that i am doing the best i can, i have never been around kids before this...
Landon was trying to mess with his chest clip again yesterday so I finally told him, "Look, the president made a rule that says little boys and girls can't unfasten the clip." (Hey, its the best I could come up with on the spot.) Apparently, he really doesn't want to disappoint the president because he hasn't touched it since. :rotfl:
I really wasn't thinking that Jackson was ready to potty train. He's kind of tried in the past and he's in preschool where they take all the kids to the bathroom when they get there and before snack. Not one time since august has he ever gone pee in the toilet. Yesterday he had his diaper off after his bath and said he didn't want to wear it and wanted underwear. We went over the rules of underwear and put some on. I had gotten a few pair at christmas time to have around. He's gone in the...
We bought Landon a new car seat about a month ago, a Graco Nautilus. His Sunshine Kids doesn't install well at all forward facing, so we had to get something that does. Anyhow, he CONSTANTLY undoes the chest clip (though I don't think it should be so easy to unclasp it that he can literally push on it w/ 1 finger) and even goes for the buckle sometimes. We've consistently put him in time out for it and turn around and go home from where ever we're headed when he does it (though normally it...
Lindsey will be attending preschool once a month for the rest of this school year and then twice a week next year. I need to write a note saying that she is not allowed to be given any foods except what I specifically pack for her, and also explaining about her tube. She won't need to use her tube at school, but I want to mention it since they will notice it when changing her diaper and such, and I just don't want anyone to be shocked, lol. Has anyone written a not or alert like this? Can...
I dropped Lindsey off at preschool today for the first time and she had a blast!!!!!! She was so excited to be there. :) I am just totally thrilled.
How many do you have? How do you keep from losing them? Now that we are no longer BF, I ended up going out and getting Erick a couple of mam pacifers (he had an "orthodontic" one but liked to put it in upside down so it is gone-LOL. I know 2 is kind of old for a pacifer but he still REALLY needs to suck and was asking for apples and carrots with dip and falling asleep eating and sucking on those which probably isn't safe. A pacifer seemed like better alternative (he was also trying...
I think Doug is starting to notice that he is different from us. He's almost 18 months old, and has a handful of words (yeah, uh-oh, moo, Dada). The last few days, he's been pulling up the bottom of my shirt and my husband's shirt and rubbing our stomachs. At first we didn't think anything of it. Then today when he did it, he said "buh-buh" and rubbed my belly exactly where his Mic-key button would be. I just said that Mama didn't have a button, and he looked me right in the eye and said...
TykeLight GloMate ...I am thinking about it for Z. http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=535510&cmSource=CrossSell&relatedProductId=534687
Hiya ladies, We have a 5 month old foster child living with us, she's been having lots of trouble sleeping at night...don't know much about home life prior to her moving in with us last week. She HATES the crib, doesn't like sleep in a different room, won't sleep in her carrier. Music doesn't help at all and neither does complete quiet. Several nights have ended with DH or myself rocking/sleeping in the recliner with her laying on us. Last night I tried swaddling her and she slept from...
What's new with your little ones? New words? New skills? New toys? New foods? New milestones? New behaviors? Give us an update!:)
Anyone else have a problem with kids saying huh alot. ? I have to repeat things to Matthew 2 or 3 times cause he asks me Huh? He even squints his eyes when he says it. I'm not sure if it's just a habit, or if he really doesn't hear me.
Owen has taken TWO bottles!!! 6 oz. both times. The first one was from his daddy only--carrying him around in the baby Bjorn and then finishing up w/ him sitting in the bouncy seat. The second bottle was all taken while he was sitting in the bouncy seat. No coaxing to get it in his mouth. He just latched on & started chugging!!!:thumbs_up::biggrin: Then, halfway through, I took the bottle and he looked at me...and went right on eating!:grnbiggrin::grnbiggrin: He...
I decided to quit nursing. I can't get rid of the nipple thrush (I've now used Nystatin & Gentian Violet--no better w/ either. On top of using diflucan, GSE, probiotics, vinegar & water rinses, etc..) and I can't continue to dread feeding my son all the time. We started w/ formula in the bottle & he would scream even when we put drops in his mouth. Then, I pumped this morning & put it in a bottle & he won't take it. He definitely knows it's not formula though, and stopped crying for a few...
How much television (per day) do you allow your little ones to watch? What shows do you let them watch? Which shows are their favorites?
Zoe (as you may know:roflmao:)is a bit high strung. She often makes this repetitive whining noise that just grates on my nerves. She is 16 months. I have been trying different things when she does this with very limited success. I know she is pretty young yet, but I really must get this sound to stop for the sake of what is left of my sanity. Any suggestions??? Please???
