Landon is SO much better today, I can't even believe he's the same child. He's up to his normal antics, giggling and getting into trouble. He's still getting tired out easily, but isn't truly lethargic, which is awesome. He's been feeling enough better since last night to fight the nebulizers, which as annoying as it is, I know is an awesome sign. He's such a smart little cookie. He looked at my mom and said, "Me got an owie." Then he jabbed his thigh and said, "OW!" Then he...
Tara just spent 10 days in hospital with what turned out to be a chest infection due to pseudomonas. She got really sick (ICU and bi-pap) but also recovered fairly quickly (I never expected to be home in 10 days). My problem is that I am getting conflicting information about pseudomonas. One doctor says it never really goes away, another says it isn't dangerous unless you have something like CF. I don't know what to believe. Can anyone share their experiences with it?
For about a year now Corinne has been having their really off days, started maybe once a week, went to twice, now it's almost every other day. On these weird days she drools like crazy, can seem to close her mouth or swallow, she looks exhausted, spacey, totally different from her "good" days (which used to be her normal everyday days). She has been admitted 2x since Oct, both for unrelated things, and the weird thing is that when she was inpatient she had a week of good days, which NEVER...
Pax has a lacy rash on his legs and arms....and just a little on his belly. The rash is totally flat. No bumps or anything, and it doesn't appear to be itchy at all. HIs cheeks are bright red and hot like he has a fever - but he doesn't, not even a little. His temp is 98.9, I keep checking!! He is acting fine. Just a little runny nose, but he's had it since he was sick with a nasty cold when Finn was inpatient about a week and a half ago. All the kids had it - not just Pax. The only thing I...
Landon woke up with a temp of 104.2. He was very lethargic and absolutely not himself. By the time we went to the ped, at 3PM, he'd been awake MAYBE 2 hours all day. Even his ped commented on how this is NOT Landon. Anyhow, he has pneumonia and a double ear infection, even after finishing a round of zithromax yesterday. He got a rocephin shot in the office (what an understanding child, he told the nurse he wasn't mad at her and that it was oK), 2 nebs a dose of orapred and motrin, as his...
My poor Emily had a sour tummy last night - but went potty twice so we thought that was her problem. She went to school no problems - but came to me after homework - saying she was cold and asking me to take her temp. (smart kid!!) Sure enough 102. Now this is the shocker - Dh walked in - as I was taking her temp. And the FIRST THING HE SAID - was "I will stay home with her tomorrow. I have all my stuff and can work from home!" WHAT??/ I nearly fell over!!! Whew! Poor...
He just woke up with a temperature of 104.2. That is NOT going the right direction. He's also more congested and was wheezing a little bit last night, so its time for Mommy to throw in the towel. He's been running high fevers since Saturday, and his cough is just getting worse. Hopefully she can help us and he can kick the nasties quickly.
William had blood work last week. Hemoglobin was 113g/L (normal 105-135) but his ferritin level was at 7. Do you have any suggestion to raise it? He doesnt eat meat (I tried, we offer, but 90% of times he wont even touch it)...
This is the first winter that ds has not gotten Synagis. We know that he was exposed to RSV last winter (long story about dh's niece, but I was NOT happy) and got snotty, but ped was not convinced it was RSV. So I have been to the ped Th, F, Sa, and Tu. She was saying that it was just a viral resp infection. The Sat ped started him on antibiotics just to cover all bases. But Tues, she said that he sounded like RSV. Apparently with his hydration down, they were not getting a "true" listen to the...

Elisa has a seventh cranial nerve palsy on the right side of her face which is congenital. Her doctors when she was a tiny baby mentioned something about facial reanimation surgery as an option to help her move her face. If she could move the right side of her face chewing would not be a distant possibility, and it could also potentially help her to form words if she ever overcomes the non-verbal part of her autism. She'd also look a lot more "normal" and I would feel much more comfortable...
I have a very good idea what has been ailing Landon through the weekend and the first part of the week. I looked up symptoms of the flu and he has EVERY one of them, high fevers (pushing 104), cough (not real bad though), runny nose, and just a general sick feeling. He actually hasn't been terribly congested at all, so we've let it run its course at home and last night his fever broke on its own, naturally. (I went up to give him motrin and by the time I got there he was asleep, so I left...
As I explained in the post of the update from Hayden's pulm appt, his pulm thinks some of the asthma cough may be several other things combined, reflux, post nasal drip, and aspiration difficulties. One of the meds he gave was Omnicef for 21days. We are on day 3 and it seems like his nose has gotten worse. He's been on abx more times than I can count but this is the first time I've noted him getting worse. Today, he's just green and gooey running down his face. Before, it was a bit crusty,...
Alec had his neuro consult today. First time he's been to neuro in about 4-5 years. Actually found out alot!!! His last mri was done when he was 3 mos old, so will do another in a few months, after genetic study comes back. Also checking his iron, vit d, carnitine, lactic acid, and thyroid levels, as well as lft and cbc...none of which have been done yet. He asked about the dysautonomia symptoms and signs off issues...however made a comment that a true dysautonomic...
Landon wasn't feeling well yesterday. He has a cough and runny nose. Last night, he went to be really early (around 5PM) and didn't even eat dinner. He woke up about 10:30 crying. I asked if his throat hurt, he said yes. Then I asked if he wanted ice cream. He said yes, but then the poor thing didn't even touch it. We took his temperature at 11PM and it was 101. We gave him tylenol and by midnight it was 101.8. Then we gave him motrin which did get it down to 99.8 and he got a few...
So last week, Lindsey had a scope done with biopsies. They wanted esophagus biopsies since she had started some food trials. Guess what? They did extra biopsies of her stomach and intestines since they were already in there, but esophagus was the main focus...and they LOST her esophagus slide "in processing". So yea. The whole test was for nothing. :1230: In the grand scheme of things, I suppose it really does not matter because since last weekend, they have moved on to what they think...
no urine output since 6pm yesterday evening...and waiting for the flood gates to open. Alec has done this before, and he's not dehydrated.... he;s just finishing up his 8 cans of jevity via pump now.. (done by 7pm) and nada..... nurse was worried (new to Alec) and kinda flipped out.... his temp is 96 (normal for him) and is acting fine.....just wondering now, when his sleepsafe bed will become his swimming pool...ugh Anyone elses kid do this?? without an infection that is? ...
So the other day, Daniel woke up after a bloody nose. His nose was all clogged up with dried blood. He always wakes up screaming and refluxing/puking (despite being j fed with his stomach being drained). After he had been up a little bit I noticed his breathing sounding a bit raspy when he exerted himself, but I figured it was just leftover from the night/reflux and exacerbated by the bloody nose because he couldn't breathe through his nose, etc. He's not really one to aspirate, though he...
I just heard back from the NP at the ENT office. Here we go again for surgery on Bryna. She needs her FOURTH set of ear tubes, tonsils removed, and her sinuses cleaned out again and turbinates removed. She is only 4. The only good news was that her adnoids did not grow back! The last two sinus surgeries she had were at 18 months and 22 months, but they were outpatient. I think I remember people saying that tonsil removal may need an overnight stay. Anyone know? I am finally back to...
I have posted before about my daughter's persistent redness and rash around the mouth. She always has it, primarily, I think from drooling and people constantly wiping her mouth and assisting her with a straw. I have tried it all, aquaphor, vaseline, Boudreaux's Butt paste, neosporin, desitin, etc. etc. etc. Over the past few days it has gotten significantly worse and spread. The only difference in her diet/meds is the addition of melatonin. I've been giving her a VERY small dose nightly...
Joey has been treated for iron deficiency anemia for the last 4-5 weeks. He's been taking 60mg of oral ferrous sulfate per day. His hemoglobin was initially 8.4 (I think normal is 11.5). His iron saturation, ferritin and other iron labs were also quite low. We re-checked a CBC and with iron labs and retic count on Monday. Apparently the hemoglobin has risen to an impressive 11 :). However, his retic count is lower than normal now even though it was in the normal range initially....
I posted on FB last night thinking Kayla (14 years old) might have shingles.. now I am not too sure. I took a picture of what her arm looks like. I thought she had a cluster on her neck as well, but those look more like just a few spots of acne now that she has slept. So this is the only spots she has.. She is saying they hurt but are itchy as well.. what I find interesting is the lines they are making. They do look better this am (when the pic was taken) then they did last night.....
We saw the neurologist today (the one who will deal with the central sleep apnea), and we brought up Nolan's head lag issue. It is very mild, and seems worse some days and better on other days. He also has a bit of a wiggly (loose) run, where his hips sway back and forth. He walks just fine and wasn't delayed in motor milestones, but the head lag and the "wiggle run" has always nagged at me. She did a quick exam and said she noticed reduced muscle tone in his arms and torso. His legs were...
Amanda had her wrist MRI on monday after a break that happened Dec 18. She has been casted for 8 weeks and in a brace for 3 weeks and still having tons of pain so they did an MRI with contrast. Ortho called today, she has a torn ligament so he is referring us to their hand specialist for a surgery consult. The soonest opening is March 15, 2 weeks away. Ugh!!!
It went REALLY well, except for the fact he was running late, but that's normal for him. Anyhow, he said that his right ear looks great, YAY! He said the left ear still has fluid but doesn't *appear* to be infected. He does think; however, that b/c of the amount of pain he's still having there *could* be infection and wanted to do another round of antibiotics just in case. He wanted to use Cefzil but I asked him not to, because it constipated the boy so badly. He was shocked that he'd had...
It all started with Tim, he woke up yesterday morning saying that his throat hurt and that he had a headache. I let him stay home because he was obviously just miserable and took Wes to school. I came home and for the first time really checked him out. He was so warm I took his temp and it was 101.9 so I called the ped immediatly and we were lucky enough to get him in just over an hour later. My mind was thinking sinus infection because those are pretty common with Tim. We got there and they...
What would this mean to you? Kendall is 15 mos, 20 lbs and has been "relatively" healthy for the past 2 weeks (when she was in the hospital for IV abx for pneumonia/whatever other viral or bacterial craziness had invaded her body for 2 months. So besides her usual GI issues, she's had no breathing problems, no snotty nose, no coughing, no junky breathing - nothing. This past week we haven't hooked her up to continuous pulse ox monitoring at nite like normal because i was having all...
The urodynamics results are showing high bladder pressure, what does this actually mean? Is there medication to help? What causes this to happen? I really hope someone can help me understand it better.
I am grasping at straws here, bear with me. It has been bugging me for a few days now that Finn's already dreadful drinking went down the tubes after her got his 2 month vaccinations on 2-9-10. That's exactly when things went from bad to....hideous. That's when he went from drinking 15 or so ounces a day to 9 or 10....and now we're at 4 or 5. But then I look at Pax's baby book, and lo and behold, things got really bad for him right after he rec'd his 2 month vaccinations. Is that a...
We got Jason's results back from his stim test last week... it was normal! I am thrilled he doesn't have a growth hormone deficiency and that we don't have to give him daily injections (at this point... he still qualifies based on being in the less than third percentile but we are opting against it right now)... but still I am confused about why he isn't growing? Anyone else know what can cause a child not to grow?? We don't see ENdo again until begining of March.
