Has anybody had any success with using a reflux wedge? We do have one end of the crib mattress raised, but he is starting to just slide down it. I've seen the tucker sling type products, but he's getting too big for those. With a wedge, he would totally just slide down as he has no muscle control. Has anybody used the comfy lift bed for reflux? It looks neat, but not sure if it would help or not.
We ordered Benik hand/wrist splints through our local PandO supplier 2 months ago. I called them this morning to ask what was taking so very long. Suprise! They JUST came in this morning. Really? Really? This morning????? What an amazing coincidence. I'm just so frustrated. The same thing happened with her AFOs. I feel trapped because it's not like we have any other options to get orthotics for Eve. Why must we wait so long for equipment?? She's growing! Grrrrr......
Mya in her new Kids Rock Chair. She loves it. I still have to figure out how to adjust the armrests and the seat depth & width. And I have to modify the footplate as her little legs are about 6 inches too short. lol But overall I really like it. And the tie-downs are awesome. Very sturdy. We are waiting on the lap tray as well as the vent tray for the back to put her stuff on. They are suppose to be in on Friday. file:///C:/Users/Cyn/Downloads/Mya%20in%20new%20chair.jpg

So, long story short, after a horrid day yesterday as far as dr. appointments, I am trying to be positive and proactive so I am now going to try to focus on something I can control and do. We need to figure something out for Coop's room. He will now be on bipap anytime he is sleeping. He is also on feeds all night and a farrell bag. He is also getting a coughassist vest delivered this week. I am looking for a stylish and safe way to house all of this in his very tiny room without it...
and he enjoyed it!!
How effectively does your child communicate? Does your child use any assistive technonolgy/augmentative devices (i.e., communication boards, BIGmack, Dynavox, etc....) ? At what age did they begin to use the devices? Do they use the devices at school? At home? In therapy? Have the devices made an major impact on how well your child communicates?

Okay, ladies, I'm hoping that you can help me out. I just spent the last 90 minutes searching through old threads, and I'm having a hard time finding what I'm looking for all in one place. Ali has a seating evaluation tomorrow with her PT/OT, and then we should be meeting with the DME rep sometime in the next two weeks. The DME that we are going through is HEAVY on the Convaids, which is fine, but I want to go into this as informed as possible. In addition, her PT/OT (through the school)...
I bought a second hand special needs stroller several months ago. I finally got around to taking some pictures to share. I love that it is very easy to push and is much smoother than the wheelchair and goes easily on paths that I would never attempt with the wheelchair. I also love the hood. I might need to find something that helps keep her posture a bit better becomes she tends to slip and twist over time, but there is heaps of growing room. Folding and unfolding is a bit of an issue,...
I guess they are what the orthotist described but I was expecting something a little more discrete I guess. These seem huge. They have an inner part with one strap to hold his arch up then this really large part that goes 3/4 of the way to his knee. The larger part is supposed to keep his ankles from rolling in or out. It has a hinge that allows full forward and back motion of his ankle but no side to side or rolling. He likes them and his only question when I asked if he'd wear...
http://carebikes.com/ Can you tell I want my kids to experience wind in their face. Waiting for a call back on the price of this one.
http://www.frankmobility.com/duet.php Still waiting for the cost of he Carebike. I think I like it better because of not having to transfer them out of the wheelchair. For some reason Kelly just keeps getting bigger and heavier.
Sorry I didn't get these up for a minute. I kept leaving my camera in the truck. As you can see, there's a bolt for the wings. You can also see the ball joint that the headrest pivots on for infinite adjustment. And excuse the upset little boy. He's not liking that the bus was running late. lol ...
I am hosting a giveaway on my blog for a free Voice4U iPhone/iTouch app. This app has and is being used as a stand alone aug comm device. (talker) Check it out at: http://www.makenziesmiracle.org/2010/03/voice4u-giveaway.html
Kelly loved trying out the harness for the first time she tried kicking a ball with her brother. I need to make some more adjustments and get a rotation devise for it. I would love to get a track put on the ceiling that she could "walk" along. The rocker was also a big hit she likes to kick her legs so it will rock her. She has such a great laugh. OK I don't know why the pictures came in like that I had them in order.
We are talking seating options for kindergarten for next year. What does everyone have for their kg aged kids for supportive seating. Best case scenario is can be table height, supportive for back of legs, and it would be great to have head support.
Hayden is getting casted for a new set on Friday so, of course, we are looking at colors. I see Cascade has added the transfers for the plastic now! Is it a bad idea to get them?
We finally got all of our ducks in a row to get Isaiah in for a seating clinic for a new feeding/positioning chair. According to the PT and OT at Isaiah's motor appt. this past Monday, this particular clinic is exceptionally good at what they do. They were completely booked for March, but we have an appt. for early April. The OT mentioned Isaiah could benefit from a chair that has many options so he can use it as an activity chair as well ~ can't wait to see what the seating clinic...
OK, this one may be a dumb question, sorry:) I was talking to the guy at our medical equipment place (we only have one locally that orders anything other than wheelchairs) and he said that they don't have contracts with the companies that make either the Bug seating system or the xpanda and that he would not be able to order those for me but that we could look at what Rifton or Drive make as they have contracts with them. Well, I really wanted to check out the Bug or panda seats. There is...
Hi, I am not really sure if this is were i should put this so I am sorry if this is the wrong place. My son is 2.5 he has been wearing ankle braces since he was 13 months old. He was wearing a cascade cricket brace on both feet. We had a appoinment to get reevaluated becasue he was gribbing the toe pads with his so hard that his neuro thought he might need a higher brace. It was recommended that we get a sure step smo. Does anyone know anything about these braces. Do you know if a xw stride...
Koty's new AFOs should be ready on Friday. This time he's getting something called a Richie brace (http://www.richiebrace.com/richie-brace.htm) but it will also have an insert to help his flat feet. Has anyone used these before? He said it would look basically like a Cascade DAFO but with an insert but the website looks quite different. I have to admit though, the pics I found look a little less, um special needs and more like sports braces which I think I like. Has anyone used these...
Emily's kidwalk and new headrest for her wheelchair were approved!!! They should be delivered any day now :animal_dancingpig:
Thanks for all the great pictures. They really make the article great. :):love_hearthrob::love_hearthrob: Here is the article: Why You (and Your Insurance Company) Need to Get Your Child Standing
Hey girl - what type of headrest does Hayden's Kimba have? I thought we had one with Brandons but just realised i was mixing his zippy up with his kimba (I knew we had a headrest in our 'paraphanalia box' but apparently had the seating system wrong... lol!) - when we ordered it we told our seating company we wanted the kimba and 'everything he would need with it'... assuming she would know... apparently she didnt... It has bugged me since we got it as there is no growth room 'up' for...
Click here to see the video. I have no idea how to save this to my computer. His PT sent it to me. I love it!
We are doing an article on standers for the March edition of Complex Child and I would love to include a few pictures of happy kids in their standers. Would anyone be willing to submit one? You can either post it here or email it to submit@complexchild.com Thanks!
The inside of her room is just about done. We need to order blinds, put up bathroom fixtures and do the closets. And the ramp isn't done yet which is the part I'm most looking forward to. Here are some pics of it. Hopefully the rocker recliner will be here soon and we'll be able to start really using it. I'm waiting on blinds and closet shelves before I officially move her in.
OK, I have another question. ;) Right now Holden has medicaid only. We are just starting the adoption process. Once it goes through we will be able to put himon our insurance & have medicaid as his secondary. Should we order equipment now knowing that medicaid takes forever to approve? Will adding anothr insurance mess up their paperwork so badly that we won't get what we order now? Is private insurance more likely to approve equipment? Right now all his stuff is borrowed (I have lots...
As long as all these great stander pics are around, lets talk standers. Holden has a Lecky Squiggles stander with head rest that he HATES. And I mean HATES- he starts screaming as soon as I try to put in in the thing, let alone buckle him in and get it in standing position. We are borrowing it from someone else to try it out. Our local medical equipment place has a VERY hard time getting equipment to trial so this was the only one around here (we are very rural). They ordered an Easy...
