Tyler's dentist visit update... - Parent-2-Parent & Reflux in Children

We recently made the decision (based on lack of care) to switch Tyler over to my dentist office. They are just so welcoming and really care about their patients something I felt his prior Dr's office was lacking (especially recently).

Tyler agreed to give them a try.....and he LOVED the staff and enviroment. Afterwards I asked him what he liked best, thinking he was going to tell me the TV in the exam room (he got to pick any channel he wanted to watch) but instead he told me that he liked that they didn't rush.

On the way home I told him the decision was his. If he wanted to go back to Dr L we would....he said NO he wanted to say with Dr H.

Ok, now on to our update

He got a full set of x-rays. He should have had a panel done at age 6 and he's NEVER had one. Again, after today's visit and being told all that we were I'm glad we made the switch.

He has NO cavities! YAY!!! He does have 2 baby tooth that are really liking their 'place' and not willing to give it up for the permenant tooth (you can actually see one of the perm broken through the gum).

We are scheduled to go ahead and have these extracted at the end of the month. This is HUGE cause I had to pull to get the prior dentist to pull the last 3 that did the same thing.

He also has his 12 year old molars coming in. They noted 4 wisdom teeth....and I was told that they will need to be pulled. Dr H doesn't suspect he will have enough room for them.

We are going to wait 6 months at which time she will reevaluate but at this point she feels we will need to see an orthodontist....Tyler has some crowding. I need to check with our dental insurance and find out what, if any orthodontists they will cover....UGH!

So, I GREAT appointment...gotta love those.

It does sound like a switch was in order.

I am glad that you and Tyler are happy with the care and treatment he will be receiving.

Sounds like things went very well, I'm glad they treated him well and he was as comfortable as possible.

That's awesome Jenn... Good for Tyler on having no cavities. The boys see the same dentist I do, and I was so afraid that C would freak out, but you know.. he's walking in there like he owns the joint and is really comfortable in the chair.

My ortho told my parents that I needed to have my wisdom teeth removed when I was 12 or 13, because they were at the stage of a 19 yo's. The oral surgeon wouldn't touch me until I was 16 or 17, so they had to wait. I had all 4 taken at once in the hospital (I highly recommend it being done this way!!) and did fine with it. I do still have some crowding on my lower jaw, but probably due to lack of space and pressure the wisdom teeth put on my others prior to them being removed.

Glad his appoint was a good one, and I am sure you both will be much happier with a *better* dentist.
