Amelia spent last wed night in the hospital after we thought she swallowed Barbies accessory. Her 3 y.o sister pulled Barbies cell phone out of her mouth.(still don't know how they got out of the box). 30 mins later she had her brothers magnetix ball in her mouth.(all are safely in the trash now.) Well she started grabbing stomach, knees to chest, retching; we have all been there before.
Her surgeon wanted her observed and it continued all night. Well later that evening the dragon breath started.GROSS!!! Thursday morning they scope her and nothing is there!!! As of today we still have not had any type of toy "pass".Am I losing my mind? What else could have caused all that. OH! the retching and breath all stopped after the scope. My theory was the versed helped her relax enough it could finally enter the stomach. Sounded great but where is it???????

Its tough to say what happened. I think sometimes in cases like that even the doctors don't know what happened. I'm glad to hear she's doing better since the scope.

Did they xray her too? I know my daughter swallowed a quarter a few months back and they did an xray first but it showed up right away, it made its way past the narrowest part of the esophogus so they said to wait until it passed...It took a week but it did pass without problem. I know they said if she had symptoms, like you mentioned, that they might have to scope her to get it out or if it didn't pass on its own after a couple of weeks they'd do another xray to see where it is? Maybe she started to swallow it and irritated her throat? I don't know..

They did scope her but being plastic they said it probably wouldnt show up. They think it was just sitting above her fundo and would go through if her stomach would relax and let it through. Thats why I think the Versed helped it go on into the stomach. So it could really take a week or two to pass. Not to be gross but I am really tired of having to check the diapers.
Mia has really slow motility of her intestines anyway. FUN FUN FUN!!! |

Ty's mighty bean magnet showed up on the xray but not the outer shell. I never saw him pass it but I assume he did as he isnt having any problems. Maybe it passed without you knowing it?

I hear you about checking the poops but they told me it was very important because if it didn't pass they had to get it out. Of course the quarter showed up on xray and you're not sure she swallowed anything. I'd say if after 2 weeks nothing I'd ask for an xray of her stomach (a scope just does the upper part, right?) or ask at least for them to see her again.

When I saw this post I thought I was going to be able to offer something, but so far we've only done shoving things into bodily orifices and not swallowing them.
Wishing you luck and hoping it appears soon. Hugs Debby

tristan swallowed a nickel when he was 2 and it got lodged in his intestines, it was too big to pass though, so it got stuck, and they had to go get it out. They gave it back in a little jar, gross, gross, gross!! i would watch for it!!!

Thanks everyone!! We still haven't seen anything but we go to the Ped tom. They said they may want to do another x-ray, not sure what that will tell them since it couldn't be seen on the first one!?! We will have to see I guess.
